The story of Kawasaki Company goes back to 1924, at that time involved into metallurgy and the aircraft industry.

In 1949, they decided to enter the motorcycle industry producing engines that could be adapted to motorcycles.

FIRST KAWASAKI MOTORCYCLES PRODUCTS a Motorcycle Engines

In their line you could find a 60 cc two–stroke, as well as a 150cc and a 250cc four–stroke engines developed with technology from BMW; company whom with they had had relationships since their beginnings in the aeronautical industry.

It wasn't until 1954 that Kawasaki Motorcycles produced their first complete motorcycle under the name of Meihatsu (a subsidiary of Kawasaki Aircraft Co.).

Almost at the same time, they also tried to introduce their own line of scooters to the market, but they soon realized they couldn't compete against the two giants of the scooters industry for those days: the Fuji Rabbit and the Mitsubishi Silver Pigeon.

And now before continuing with Kawasaki Motorcycles history, I have to open a big parenthesis…

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE HISTORY OF KAWASAKI MOTORCYCLES

We cannot talk about Kawasaki without mentioning another make that will definitely help Kawasaki become as well as Honda, Suzuki, and Yamaha one of the big players in the Japanese Motorcycles scene:

––> Meguro Motorcycles: better know in that time as the «senior make and the king of four strokes».

Meguro entered the motorcycle industry in 1937. Having a good relationship with the government, the people at Meguro took advantage of the army orders.

Their first motorcycle was the Z97: a 500cc rocker–valve motorcycle influenced by the Swiss Motosacoche. It's worth mentioning this model was a success for the factory and the Z97 was in production till the fifties.

Along the years, Meguro produced some very nice 250cc and 350cc rocker–valve, single cylinder models as well as high performance twins. All of them with a very strong British influence. Then and thanks to the commercial success they were living, they also launched a rocker–valve 125 cc for their low end range and a twin cylinder 650cc to accompany the already existing 500cc.

But it was in 1958, when Meguro tried to get rid of their British influence, when things started to go wrong…

Based on a winning prototype of Mount Asama (one of the biggest races that time), Meguro Motorcycles produced three nice and elegant machines with overhead camshaft: the 125cc E3, the 250cc F and the 350cc Y A. Unfortunately these bikes turned out to be too heavy and didn't get the buyers' attention. Meguro will soon return to rocker valve models.

Meguro Motorcycles remained as one of the top 10 manufacturers till 1960, but due to some bad decisions, as the ones mentioned above, the company started to decline and was soon bought by Kawasaki.

In 1960 Meguro signed an initial agreement with Kawasaki Motorcycles, and in 1962 they had completely disappeared.

….And this brings us back to Kawasaki Motorcycles…

In 1960, the company decides to give a serious push to the motorcycle division of Kawasaki Aircrafts:

They take out of the market the Meihatsu brand, they build their own plant of low end and low powered machines and buy Meguro.

These brilliant moves and decisions made Kawasaki Motorcycles have one of the widest range of models in the market. Kawasaki Motorcycles could offer at that time (1960's) from a 50cc moped–scooter to a powerful, high end and beautiful 650 cc twin cylinder motorcycle.

Its also important to mention that due to their very own nature, Kawasaki Motorcycles has always played the role of Maverick in the industry and that a feeling of independence from their main competitors has always been present.

Since then, many stories have been written, many models have been produced and many races have been won on Kawasaki Motorcycles, the truth is…

Nowadays Kawasaki Motorcycles is one of the major players in the industry and following their tradition, they nowadays offer a wide range of products for all kind needs and likes.

В Свердловской области появится своя промышленная достопримечательность, куда будет не стыдно привезти хоть президента, хоть премьер–министра, хоть иностранную делегацию. В октябре компания «ЧТПЗ„ планирует запустить на площадке Первоуральского новотрубного завода новый объект проекта »белая металлургия“ – цех «Железный Озон 32„. Похожее производство в Челябинской области, цех “Высота 239» на ЧТПЗ, произвело фурор среди промышленников и чиновников. Даже Владимир Путин не смог удержаться от похвалы. Теперь ультрасовременное производство, в которое вложили около 19 миллиардов рублей, запускается и на Среднем Урале. В цехе будут работать металлурги с высшим образованием в костюмах за $2000 и в ботинках за $300 – нигде в России такого просто не найти.

Проект «белая металлургия» родился в Челябинской области. Название придумало руководство компании ЧТПЗ, решив показать миру, что металлургическое производство не обязательно должно быть грязным, тяжелым и вредным, что трубы можно делать, работая за компьютером в белых одеждах. Причем последнее – не фигура речи: рабочие цеха „Высота 239„, первого цеха “белой металлургии“, облачены в белоснежные костюмы, компьютеризированный пункт управления располагается прямо на открытой площадке посреди ярко освещенного цеха, а восхищенных экскурсантов водят по периметру цеха по специальной галерее, вдоль которой стоят живые лавровые деревья. Среди довольных новым цехом были и премьер–министр Владимир Путин, пообещавший ставить челябинских «белых металлургов„ в пример всем другим отечественным промышленникам, и поддержавший его председатель Совфеда Сергей Миронов, и президент Татарстана Рустам Минниханов. Цех “Высота 239», таким образом, стал прорывом не только для ЧТПЗ – он поднял престиж всей челябинской промышленности, дав повод губернатору Михаилу Юревичу говорить о том, что производство в его регионе – самое передовое.

Теперь такой же козырь появится и у свердловского губернатора Александра Мишарина. У компании «ЧТПЗ„ есть крупный актив в Свердловской области, “Первоуральский новотрубный завод» (ПНТЗ). Здесь в октябре стартует еще один «белометаллургический„ проект, новый цех “Железный Озон 32».

Еще недавно «Железный Озон 32» (FeO32) называли просто «ЭСПК„, »новый электросталеплавильный комплекс“. Необычное название выбрали из более чем сотни предложений самих сотрудников нового производства. Даже внешне новый цех будет разительно отличаться от традиционных металлургических производств: эффектная черно–красно–оранжевая окраска, огромный логотип «FeO32», геометрические узоры – будто не цех, а объект современного искусства.

Уникальный цех больше похож на арт–объект

Но главные отличия – внутри. На ЧТПЗ обещают, что в «Железном Озоне 32" будет самая высокая выработка стали на сотрудника в России. »Наш рабочий будет делать 3400 тонн стали в год. Средний показатель по России – 1100 тонн в год. Лучшие мировые аналоги – заводы Nukor, Steel Dynamics – выплавляют до 4000–6000 тонн на душу, европейцы – 3000–4000 тонн", – говорят на предприятии.

Высокая производительность труда будет оплачиваться соответственно: сотрудники станут получать более высокую (на 20–50%) зарплату по сравнению с другими цехами и похожими предприятиями. "Более высокая зарплата объясняется тем, что большинство сотрудников работают смены по 12 часов (вместо 8, как в других цехах завода), у каждого – 3–4 специальности (а не одна–две, как обычно). Фонд заработной платы будет распределяться между коллективом, на общий заработок мотивирован весь коллектив", – объясняют на ЧТПЗ. Там говорят, что хотят, чтобы их рабочие были «рвачами в хорошем смысле» – любили много зарабатывать и ради этого трудились не покладая рук.

Несмотря на то, что для комплекса закупили самое современное оборудование (стоимость агрегатов – от $7 до $30 млн), сталеплавильное производство все равно очень тяжелое. Температура на участке достигает 40 градусов, летом может быть еще выше. Чтобы рабочие не чувствовали дискомфорта, им будет выдана уникальная спецодежда. Костюмы сталеваров снабжены системой охлаждения и теплоотражения, стоимость одного комплекта составляет $2000. Пара специальных ботинок стоит $300 – цена на уровне модной европейской обуви (и это недалеко от правды – экипировка закупается во Франции). Внешне сталевары будут выглядеть как астронавты из научно–фантастических комиксов 50–х годов (см. фото). Сходство дополняется тем, что на костюмы наносятся логотипы цеха и флаг РФ – почти как у космонавтов.

В компании говорят, что несколько групп сталеваров могут в будущем пройти инструктаж у специалистов государственного космического центра им. Хруничева и Звездного городка. «Металлурги должны будут пройти специальное тестирование, для них ведется работа по организации уникальной методики подготовки и развитию профессиональных качеств, работе в команде, психологической совместимости и нацеленности на результат», – сообщает источник в компании.

Всего в цехе начнут работу 318 человек, при этом, как говорят на предприятии, конкурс составляет 20–30 человек на место. Около 60% всех рабочих будут иметь высшее образование, около половины стажировались в Германии, Китае, Италии и Словении на аналогичных производствах. Чтобы отобрать сотрудников, с кандидатами проводят специальные тесты. Всего персонал проходит четыре ступени отбора: собеседование, тестирование на знание основ физики и механики (уровень 10 класса/техникумов), тест на психологическую совместимость для работы в коллективе, медицинское обследование и тесты (в т.ч. проверка вестибулярного аппарата и выносливости).

«Железный Озон» должен заработать в середине октября. Источники в свердловском правительстве говорят, что как раз в это время в Свердловскую область может приехать премьер–министр Владимир Путин – не исключено, что ему захочется посмотреть на новый проект «белой металлургии».

Sheffield became famous the world over by leading the way in metallurgy advances, and now recognizing changing times, Sheffield is leading the way in a transition to culture, science, and entertainment. The Magna Center was the first Science Adventure Center opened in the U.K., and offers state of the art interactive displays featuring the elements; earth, fire, and water. It makes it's home in a former steel works and is one of the cities most popular attractions. At Magna, you can walk on air, fire a hydrogen rocket, get behind the controls of a JCB, and my favorite, shoot water cannons at human targets. A full day of fun whatever your age.

The Sheffield City Centre packs more entertainment into a few square miles than many cities offer at all. Clubs, Theaters, Galleries, Museums, Restaurants, Cafes, Bars, Hotels, Spas, and extreme shopping reside within the City Centre and odds are you will not be able to see it all in one visit. The City Centre is also has the Winter Garden, and the Peace Gardens which are home to thousands of exotic indoor and outdoor plants. This theme prepares you for the rest of the city. Sheffield has over 150 Woodlands, 50 public parks and is just five miles from the Peak District National Park.

As one of Europe's greenest cities Sheffield offers all of the advantages of city and county living. The culture, shopping, and cuisine measure up to any city in the world, while just minutes away you can go rock climbing, skiing, or enjoy other outdoor activities that city dwellers the world over have to travel for hours to take part in.

Sheffield's Ski Village is the biggest ski resort open all season in Europe. Skiing and Snow Boarding are the main fare, but is far from the only activities available. Ski Village offers several runs to challenge even expert skiers. Snow boarders will also find Ski Village an exciting and challenging place to ply their trade. Those not up for extreme sports, or with children a little too young to hit the slopes, the toboggan run may be just what you are looking for. Courses on skiing and boarding are offered by top instructors, so even if you don't ski or board you can take the ski in a day or ski in weekend classes. They will have you making runs with confidence in no time, with beverages included.

Other activities provided include The Downhill All–Terrain Karting ride which takes you on a winding dirt track downhill for 150 meters. You might also enjoy hurling down a slope on a large rubber tube on the Avalanche Snowtube Run for 150 meters. Laser Combat is also popular. Similar to paintball warfare, it uses lasers which make it a bit safer and less painful. The Urban Jungle is an aerial adventure riding zip lines 30 meters above the ground over the 300 meter length course. Runs of varying difficulty range from black runs for experts on zip liners to a mini park for children 3 years old and up.

If you choose a more sedentary approach there are relaxing weekends as well with fine cuisine and great drinks where you can relax and read a book while the kids get worn out with their activities. Café Marmot has views from a large balcony where you can watch the activities while enjoying a drink or a snack. Their fare is tasty, and healthy so you can also bring the kids. The Village Inn is more for classic dishes with generous portions of traditional meals. Steak, Chicken, and desserts along with your favorite beverage are available here. Watch for the chef's specials on the chalk boards.

If all the activity has worn you down as well, spend the next day or two checking out Sheffield's museums. Exhibits in the various museums range from modern art, to ancient relics millions of years old. The Millennium Galleries showcases visual arts, crafts, and designs from local artists. It houses the Ruskin Gallery which displays minerals, paintings, drawings, books, plastercasts, prints, and Medieval Manuscripts. The Graves Art Gallery offers more traditional art such as paintings from 19th and 20th century European artists. Most of the exhibits at the Graves Art Gallery are permanent displays, however temporary displays rotate alongside them.

The kids may like the Weston Park Museum most. It will be reopening soon after a massive renovation in October 2006. Animated displays and specialty art. Snowy the Polar Bear, live ants and bees, a traditional butcher's shop, and Egyptian Mummies will fascinate the kids, and the new café will delight adults with refreshments.

There are plenty of other activities that keep all ages of locals and visitors entertained in Sheffield. Sports, Shopping, Clubs, Music, and Cuisine and Museums insure interesting times for people of all tastes. Whether you are seeing Sheffield for the first time, or entertaining yourself in your hometown there is plenty to see and do.
